A Message from Jude:

My art background is a varied one, beginning with a graphics arts course at Mt. Hood Community College. I was a young mother wishing to do something that involved drawing, and I certainly did get my wish! I became staff illustrator for an advertising agency and drew nuts and bolts for a catalog for several years. This was before good photography and in the days of real cut and paste!

As time went on, I was able to open an art business of my own, the Fellows House Gallery in Oregon City. With the help of my family, we ran a small gallery which also included a luncheon restaurant. This little enterprise taught me valuable lessons about the art business, the food business and the value of my family.

I am now happy to say I can devote much of my time to personal art endeavors. I’ve studied with top-notch painters, and I like to pass that along to beginners who come to me to get started.

Because my students were gaining in expertise, I hosted an informal art show for them for 8 years in a row, known locally as the "Picket Fence Show" and was held in various yards and gardens. To avoid the expense of framing, we would sometimes hang our watercolors in the trees or fencing and let them flap in the breeze! This show became very popular when it was featured as part of a Smithsonian Traveling Garden exhibit in Oregon City in 2003. It was welcomed under the umbrella of the local art group, Oregon City Arts Commission where it was re-named the "First City Arts Faire," and featured juried artists in all mediums. I'm very proud that I was one of the co-founders of this incredible festival which enriched the Oregon City community for many years.

Thank you for reading a bit about me and for viewing my artwork. I welcome any comments or questions you might care to email.
